Job Description

Sheridan Maine is delighted to be partnering with a well-established organisation based in Dorset to recruit a Systems & Projects Accountant to join their Finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining their accounting knowledge with a passion for finance systems, technology and process improvement. You'll play an important role in ensuring the organisation's financial systems run effectively, whilst supporting a variety of projects aimed at improving reporting, efficiency and the way finance teams operate.

This role provides a great balance of flexibility, offering remote-first working, with office attendance in Dorset typically twice a month.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the day-to-day management, administration and development of the organisation's finance systems.
  • Working on finance systems projects, upgrades and implementations, helping to deliver improvements across the business.
  • Maintaining system data, user access and financial structures, ensuring accuracy and appropriate controls.
  • Developing and enhancing financial reports and management information to support business decisions.
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline processes, improve reporting and make better use of existing systems.
  • Investigating and resolving system issues, working closely with internal teams and external providers.
  • Supporting system testing, reconciliations and data integrity checks.
  • Providing guidance and training to finance colleagues and other system users.
  • Working collaboratively with stakeholders across the organisation to understand requirements and deliver practical solutions.

The successful candidate will have:
  • A strong accounting background, combined with hands-on experience of finance systems administration, development or implementation.
  • Experience working with ERP or financial accounting systems, ideally Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations or similar.
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with financial data, reporting tools and management information.
  • Experience of improving finance processes, supporting system changes or contributing to project delivery.
  • A good understanding of financial controls, reconciliations and data accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • A proactive, organised approach and the confidence to suggest improvements and challenge existing processes.

Experience of Power BI, automation or basic programming would be advantageous, although not essential. An accounting qualification would also be beneficial, but relevant practical experience is equally important.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who enjoys the technical side of finance and wants to make a real difference to how systems and processes operate within a large, established organisation.

If you're looking for a varied finance systems role offering interesting projects, opportunities to influence improvements and excellent working flexibility, we'd love to hear from you.

Please apply with your CV or contact Mandy Marsh for further information.
